I’ve painted a lot of homes in Bergen County but I get the most enjoyment out of painting the classic colonial and victorian homes. Choosing the right colors for the older homes makes a huge difference. The classic Queen Anne Victorian looks so awesome when they are painted with the multiple color scheme they require to bring out the detail. The classic Colonial looks best with the deep rich siding and trimmed with a creamy white. A striking accent color for the shutters and doors and you have a house that just looks right.

We have started using the new Benjamin Moore Aura Paint on worn or faded aluminum siding with great results! The paints finish has a beautiful sheen with no flashing and produces a nice uniform color. The Aura Infinity paint covers so well that two light coats produces a solid color with very little paint brush marks or the usual orange skin texture due to spraying that was common with the other paint lines. Because of the new color lock technology there should be little or no fading for at least 10 years.

When you start to notice loose or peeling paint or separations in the mouldings or a general breakdown in the finish of the paint, it is a sign to consider repainting. You can incur permanent scaring to the exterior of your home if the finish deteriorates to the point that extensive scraping and sanding are required. Of course this will increase the cost of the job also. On average, an exterior paint job should last 7 years before it shows signs of breakdown. In areas where extreme weather conditions exist, you may get an isolated breakdown on a portion of the exterior of your home and those areas can be corrected separately.
